How to put a password on a web browser so the kids won’t play?
I would like to know if there is anyway you can make it harder to go online. I have DSL, but my kids are still able to go online and check out sights that are well not good or has so many pop up the computer can get virus etc. When I am not home they are online a lot. They use Internet Explorer as the browser. Is there a way where I can put a password on that browser? Thanks!

Yes. There is content advisor. That is built in to Internet Explorer. Go To IE>Tools>Internet Options>Content>Enable Content Advisor
Also you can buy Cyber Patrol for $39.95 from cyberpatrol.com. It lets you set a time limit on when and how long your kids can use the internet. Also you can block custom things. Like content, words, pictures, adult content, etc.

There is a ‘content advisor’ under IE that helps to control the content viewing.
in the IE (IE6) windows, click
Tools > Internet Options > Content and then click Enable button
The settings there are quite user friendly. Check it out.

There are programs out there that will allow you to make IE dependant on whether or not the other program is working but I dont generally like these because they cause the computer to run more processes and can slow it down if you dont have a lot of RAM from my experience.
It would be my advice to you to create your children each their own desktop/login on the computer and set your desktop as an administrator login and from there, dictate what they are and are not allowed to access. I think Windows XP has tons more security features than the previous windows before it. You can allow internet for just your administrator account or ‘everyone who uses the computer’ as it likes to say.

Open Internet Explorer and
go to “Tools”
“Internet Options…”
click on the “Content” tab
click “Enable…”
click the “General” tab
make sure the box “Users can see sites that have no rating” is NOT checked
create a supervisor password that you can remember, but they won’t guess…
click OK ’til your back out
Good luck.
