Neandertech Internet Info

I’m being told that I need an adapter for my Linksys router does anyone know if this is true, or not? When I purchase the router from Dell.com I was not informed I needed anything other than the router. My problem is that when I follow the instruction that came with the router & unplug the cable from the modem to connect it to the router my internet service goes out. When I shut-down the computer and connect the router cable to the computer I cannot access the internet. Whew, this router thang is driving me nuts! Would someone please help get this mess straighten out. I’ve tried numerous times to contact Linksys by phone, but the line is always busy! Any, and all advice, suggestion, and recommendation is needed ASAP.
