Sharing DSL service?

I want to network two computers together using a crossover cable. The first computer has Windows XP operating system and a Bell South DSL service and the other has Window 98 operating system.

My question is once I connect them with the cross over cable how do I share the DSL service so that the Windows 98 computer has internet access?
Please give detailed steps if possible.

Also will both computer be able to connect to the internet at the same time and can you set up the Win XP computer to act like a proxy?
Thanks.

Is it the wireless card or the router?

I have a Toshiba Satellite R25-S3503 Tablet PC with a built in Intel PRO/Wireless 3945abg Network Card. The notebook runs Windows XP Professional with SP2. I also have a D-Link 524 Router. (Ver. D1)

My desktop connects perfectly to the internet and so does my laptop when using the ethernet cable. The problem is when I try to go wireless.

I have restarted the router, upgraded and downgraded the firmware, resetted the router. I have run ipconfig on my laptop and it says there is an internal error, that a device in the system is not functioning. (Yes, the wireless button is on). I tried toggling it off and on to no avail. I checked device manager, the event log. Nothing.

The only time my wireless comes on is when I first start the computer. It’s on for at most 2 hours and then it shuts off. In the Network Connections, it doesn’t say NOT CONNECTED. It says DISABLED. So I tried to enable it and it doesn’t work. I called DLINK and Toshiba. I rebooted and recovered. What do I do?
In order to save battery life, the computer can shut off the Network Card. I disabled that function. I am sitting about 1.5 feet from the router and still no service. I allowed my uncle (Computer Technician) to provide remote assistance using MSN. Once he was done, he told me to restart the computer. But that’s the thing. THE CONNECTION ALWAYS COMES UP WHEN I RESTART. The same happened when I called D-Link and Toshiba. They did whatever and told me to restart. Of course it came up, but for about 45 minutes.

I called Toshiba for the third time today and they finally suggested I go to a Toshiba Certified Repair Company. The thing is, I am leaving for college on Wednesday so I can’t exactly afford time to allow them to keep and repair my laptop. Is there anything I am not doing? Is it the router? Is the adapter? Would they just replace the computer or parts?

How do I download a program from the internet to a cd or floppy?

I’m stupid, so I need a step by step proceedure on how to download to a cd or floppy. What do I download to and how do I do it? Will the copy work in another computer? When I try to download to a floppy it says it is not formatted but the box of floppies I bought are IBM PS/2 formatted. I am using windows xp. So, what are the secret words for making a copy, either way? I am trying to download information for re-installing a printer I have, but lost the software to.
